This is the discovery of BJ Habibie who is recognized by the world, makes Indonesia proud!

Sad news is engulfing the Indonesian nation. The 3rd President, BJ Habibie, has just breathed his last. This is his discovery that is recognized by the world!

Indonesia is in mourning. One of the nation's best children as well as the 3rd president, BJ Habibie, just breathed his last yesterday (11/9).

Before he died, his close family had gathered at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, where he was being treated.

In memory of him, this time Jaka will give list of inventions of BJ Habibie recognized by the world and make all Indonesians proud!

The World Recognized Discovery of BJ Habibie

Prof. Dr. Ing. H. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, FREng born in Parepare, South Sulawesi on June 25, 1936.

He is known as a genius. After graduating from the Bandung Institute of Technology, he continued his studies in aeronautical engineering, specializing in aircraft construction, in Germany.

After having worked in Germany for several months at Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm, he returned to Indonesia at the request of the then president of Indonesia, Suharto.

In 1978, he became Minister of State for Research and Technology from 1978 to 1998. After that, he became Vice President and became President in the same year, namely 1998.

During his tenure as Minister, Habibie focused on strategic industries owned by PT. IPTN, PINDAD, to PT. PAL.

During his life, Habibie has donated many things to Indonesia to make us proud. Reported from various national sources, here is the list!

1. Habibie's theory

Habibie got a nickname Mr. Crack because of his important discoveries in the world of aviation. The discovery is referred to as Habibie's theory or Crack Progression Theory.

This theory was inspired by the many plane crashes in the 1960s because there were no tools or theories to detect cracks in planes.

Engineers also increase the level of safety by adding strength to the construction. However, this method makes the aircraft heavier and difficult to maneuver.

In simple terms, this theory explains the starting point of cracks in the wings and fuselage, thereby increasing the risk of a plane crash while in the air.

These cracks usually occur in the joints between the fuselage and the wings of the aircraft, as well as in the engine mount.

Because they often experience continuous shocks when take-off nor landing, then cracks appear that can spread and cause the plane to fail to fly.

With this theory, Habibie managed to calculate the location and size of the cracks in the aircraft construction in great detail down to the atomic level.

Other than that, Operating Empty Weight (the weight of the plane without passengers and fuel) can be about 10% lighter.

When Habibie inserts a composite type of material, the reduced weight can be up to 25% lighter.

To this day, there are still many who apply this theory so that the aircraft is lighter and can be more flexible in maneuvering.

2. N250 Gatot Kaca

One of Habibie's most phenomenal relics is of course planes N250 Gatot Kaca which became the first aircraft made in Indonesia.

It took approximately 5 years, this aircraft is designed in such a way as not to experience dutch roll aka swaying excessively.

In addition, the technology applied by this aircraft is also quite sophisticated. The N250 is the only turbopop type aircraft equipped with fly by wire.

The Gatot Kaca aircraft made its maiden flight on August 10, 1995, carrying about 50 passengers.

This plane almost got certification from Automated Flight Following (AFF). Unfortunately, the monetary crisis that occurred from 1996 to 1998 had to stop Habibi's dream.

Moreover, there are conditions put forward by International Monetary Fund (IMF) who asked for the aircraft project to be stopped in order to get help from them.

Therefore, Habibie's dream for the N250 to air to connect the island to the island just ran aground.

3. Aircraft R80

Hit by the monetary crisis and the IMF did not make Habibie give up. He continues to try to achieve his goals by designing planes RAI R80.

The plane he designed with his eldest son, Ilham Akbar Habibir. Later, the aircraft will have a capacity of 80 to 92 people.

In order to make this dream come true, it was founded PT Region Aviation Industry. The R80 aircraft itself was launched in 2012 and first flew in 2017.

The aircraft is now in the advanced design process. This aircraft has also been equipped with technology fly by wire and claimed to be fuel efficient.

Unfortunately, he had to leave us all before this plane was mass-produced and used to connect between islands in Indonesia.

Other Inventions . . .

In addition to the three points that Jaka has mentioned, Habibie has also made airplane prototypes DO-31 purchased by NASA for space exploration purposes.

The specialty of this aircraft is its ability to perform take-off and landing vertically.

In addition, there are still many aircraft designs in which Habibie participated in designing, including:

  • TRANSALL C-130 . Military Transport Aircraft

  • Hansa Jet 320

  • Airbus A-300

  • CN 235

  • BO-105 . helicopter

  • Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA)

The name BJ Habibie will always be remembered by everyone, including the international aviation world. His works will always be immortal and become a guide for many activists in the aviation world.

There are so many airlines that recognize his name. Just say it The US Academy of Engineering (United States) and The Royal Aeronautical Society London (English).

Hopefully he can inspire more young Indonesians to be successful with hard work like him.
