Are you a Marvel or DC team, gang? This time, Jaka wants to discuss why Marvel can be as successful as it is now, leaving DC far behind.
Competition between Marvel and DC Comics has been going on for years. With the superheroes they have, they are trying to dominate the comics world.
However, if you look at the films produced, it seems that DC is overwhelmed with success Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially after its release Avengers: Endgame.
Why did DC fail when Marvel had such incredible success?
Why Is Marvel Better Than DC?
If we look at the past few years before there was Marvel Studios, maybe we know more about DC superheroes like Superman and Batman.
Moreover, at that time the Batman trilogy was made Christopher Nolan achieved tremendous success and is considered one of the best trilogies of all time.
How about Marvel? Ordinary people may only know Spider-Man. Not much is known about Iron Man or Captain America.
But everything changed when Marvel Studios formed and released the first Iron Man film. Since then, Marvel has taken the lead. How could this happen?
1. Better Planning
Photo source: MediumSince the appearance of the film Iron Man First, Marvel seems to know where these Marvel films will take.
The first clue appears from Nick Fury who wants to talk about the initiation of the Avengers in post credit the film.
After that, came the Marvel films that were intertwined with each other until they reached their peak in the film Avengers: Endgame.
What about DC? They seem overwhelmed by the pursuit of Marvel's success and seem to be in a hurry to work on the films.
DC Extended Univers (DCEU) started in 2013 with film Man of Steel, together with Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World.
It took three years for DC to make another movie, that is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which is labeled as one of the worst superhero movies.
Then in 2017, DC released Wonder Woman and Justice League. This immature planning is what makes DC look a little chaotic.
2. Productivity of Filmmaking
Photo source: Screen RantMarvel Studio in the span of 11 years managed to make 22 movies or equal to 2 films per year.
What about DC? In a span of 7 years, they only produced 7 films. In terms of numbers, they clearly lost to Marvel.
With so many films produced by Marvel, of course they are better able to connect stories from one film to another.
Moreover, Marvel doesn't hesitate to introduce less well-known superheroes like Doctor Strange and Black Panther.
On the other hand, it seems that DC is having a hard time breaking away from its dependence on the superhero trio Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
3. Public Response to Film
Photo source: Rotten TomatoesJudging from the public response, it appears that Marvel films often get positive responses when compared to DC films.
Let's take an example rating in Rotten Tomatoes. Worst movie from Marvel is Thor: The Dark World with value 66%.
For DC, the worst movie of the entire DCEU is Suicide Squad with value only 27%. Even movies Batman v Superman: The Dawn of Justice only get value 28%.
What about the best movies? Marvel has Black Panther with value 97%, where DC has Wonder Woman with value 93%.
4. Cast Selection
Photo source: MashableMarvel is considered successful in recruiting suitable actors to play its characters.
Robert Downey Jr. very suitable to play the character Tony Stark and worked at the MCU for 11 years.
We now can't imagine any other actor playing Tony Stark as well as Robert.
Likewise other characters like Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and so on that persisted from the beginning of the MCU to Endgame.
On the other hand, DC doesn't get that much actor loyalty. Harry Canvil (Superman) and Ben Affleck (Batman) will not continue his role in the DCEU after Justice League.
Even Ben Affleck is always compared to the previous Batman cast, Christian Bale, where some think Bale is more appropriate to play the superhero.
If that's the case, what will happen to the next DCEU?
The selection of the right character is one of the key determining factors why Marvel is better than DC.
5. More Humane Superheroes
Photo source: The WrapSuperman the alien, Wonder Woman the god, Aquaman the god. It seems that the superheroes from DC, besides Batman, look very strong because they are not ordinary humans.
Compare with the superheroes in Marvel. You could say that only Thor has the power of a god.
Captain Marvel or Scarlett Witch have super abilities due to the effects Infinity Stones.
Many superheroes are more human in Marvel films, from Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Sam Wilson, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, and so on.
This makes Marvel superheroes feel closer to fans when compared to DC.
6. More Sticky Enemies
Photo source: Business Insider IndiaBefore finally appearing in full in the movie Avengers: Infinity Wars, Thanos had appeared several times in the previous films.
It gave the viewer the effect that this purple creature would become final boss in the Marvel movies, and it's proven to be true.
Then, it was discovered that Thanos was eyeing Infinity Stones to eliminate half the population of living things for the sake of the balance of the universe.
Let's compare with the main enemy in Justice League, Steppenwolf. He came to Earth to destroy the world.
Well, that's the motivation.
Maybe DC has Joker very well played by the late Hedge Ledger, but that was before the DCEU started.
After that, there's no enemy in the DCEU that really captivates the audience.
Unlike Marvel which has Loki, Ronan the Accuser, until your dorm which have their own characteristics.
7. Comedy Interlude, Post-Credit Scene, and Cameo Stan Lee
Photo source: Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki - FandomMany think that DC films are too serious and dark. Almost rarely tucked in the nuances of humor in each film.
In contrast to Marvel films which often have elements of comedy in them.
No need to mention the movie Deadpool. Just say it Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant-Man able to shake the stomach of the audience.
Maybe it was for this reason that DC finally decided to release the Shazam movie! which is full of joy.
Then, Marvel always slips post-credits scene at the end of every film (except Avengers: Endgame). Some are important, some are less important.
Another plus from Marvel is the cameo of the legend Stan Lee in every MCU movie that hits theaters.
That's 7 reasons why Marvel is better than DC version of JalanTikus. Do you have another opinion? Write in the comments column, yes!
