After saving with a different type of document, reopen the new document and save it again in Word document format. If successful, then your document can be used again.
The second way to repair damaged word files
This method uses the Document Repair feature found in all versions of Microsoft Office. The trick is, open the Microsoft Office application, then open the document by clicking File > Open > Browse. Then select the damaged document.
When you want to open the document, make sure you have replaced the Open button with the option Open and Repair by click the down arrow next to the Open button.
If it is already, select Open and Repair. Then the document will open as a new document.

After that select the document that cannot be opened, and click Insert. If there are no problems, the document is successfully opened and entered into the new document.
The fourth way to repair damaged word files
Just like the third method, this method can also be used for your Word documents that cannot be opened. But, this method only applies to Word 2016 documents, guys.
To do this, open Word, then select View > Draft.
Then click File > Options > Advance. Scroll until you meet Show document content, then check the option Show picture placeholders and Use draft front in Draft and Outline views.
If so, try opening the document that can't be opened.
