So all of this started from earlier versions of Windows/DOS systems which required file name extensions consisting of only 3 letters. Thus, the extension .jpeg can't be used because it has 4 letters.
Therefore, the latest extension of JPEG was made which consists of 3 letters, namely .jpg or JPGs. Currently, the latest versions of Windows can support 4-letter extensions, so both JPG and JPEG can be used.

The main advantage of JPEG or JPG is that it has a high level of compression but still uses color true color (24 bits). As a result, even though the file size is small, the colors displayed stay accurate, so that image quality can be maintained perfectly.
