Layer two switches work to process data to the data link, while layer three will process data to the network.

Differences between Hubs and Other Switches

1. Data Transfer Speed

Hubs have speeds of up to 100 Mbps, while switches usually have speeds above 100 Mbps and even up to 1 Gbps.

The switch speed can be considered faster because of the way it sends data directly to the destination. While on the hub, it is divided into several ports.

The speed of the hub will be divided according to the connected devices. From here you can tell the difference, right?

2. OSI System Layer

OSI or Open Systems Interconnection is a computer network connecting technology in conceptual form as a standard definition of connection.

In this case, the hub uses connection technology OSI first layer or Physical Layer which can only send data from sender to receiver only.

Whereas the switch uses the second OSI layer where you can use Media Access Control (MAC) and Layer Logical Link Control (LLC) in sending data.

3. How it works

The way hubs and switches work is quite different, gang. Hubs work by sharing data to every device connected to the network.

Meanwhile, the switch will receive data and only send data that has been determined through the MAC address.

4. Security System According to OSI

5. Price

Well, if the technology is more sophisticated, of course the price given by a device will be more expensive. Hubs usually have a cheaper price of 100 thousand.

While switches can be priced from 200 thousand to millions of rupiah, depending on the speed and number of ports provided.
